Miriam Abelson

Miriam Abelson

Associate Professor

Portland State University

Dr. Miriam Abelson is an Associate Professor in PSU's Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology with a certificate in Women's and Gender Studies from the University of Oregon in 2014. Her dissertation research explored how men’s experiences of gender, sexuality, and race are affected by various spatial and institutional contexts, through interviews with female to male transgender people in the U.S. West, South, and Midwest. Her research interests are in sexualities; intersections of gender, race, and sexuality; queer and LGBT Studies; masculinities; transgender studies; violence; and research methods.
